The UN Environmental Program says a deal has been hammered out to cut mercury emissions. The global pact was reached after talks in Geneva among more than 140 countries. The agreement aims to phase out such common household products that use the liquid metal such as thermometers and to reduce emissions from power plants. Officials say the deal could take three to five years to come into force.
