Taking folic acid before and during pregnancy has been found to greatly reduce the risk of having a child born with autism. A new study finds babies born to women who took folic acid supplements are about 40% less likely to be diagnosed with autism. Researchers say the period between four weeks before conception and eight weeks into a pregnancy appears to be the most critical when it comes to folic acid consumption. The study can be found online in the "Journal of the American Medical Association."
