Hybrid Version of Grapefruit

Patients on prescription drugs that forbid eating grapefruit may soon have a way to enjoy it anyway. A hybrid version that's under development contains very low levels of chemical compounds that cause it to interact with dozens of drugs. The compounds are believed to prevent the human body from breaking down certain medications, causing more to enter the bloodstream, and potentially lead to an overdose. The hybrid contains only a fraction of the chemicals, and the University of Florida says production of the fruit is about five to seven years away.
