Researchers Claim Major Progress Toward Universal Flu

A universal flu vaccine could become available in the coming years . Researchers at Imperial College London say they have come up with a blueprint for a vaccine to protect people from various forms of influenza. The team identified the exact parts of the immune system and at the core of the flu virus such a vaccine would have to target to be effective.

The implications of having a universal flu vaccine are huge since seasonal flu kills up to half-million people every year. A flu pandemic could kill many more. The findings are published in the journal "Natural Medicine,"
