Concussions Common In Middle School Girls Playing Soccer

Middle school girls who play soccer may be more vulnerable to concussions than you think. Researchers say many girls increase their risk of a second concussion by playing through the injuries, in spite of doctors advice not to play until they recover . After evaluating more than 350 girls aged eleven to 14 they found that their rate of concussions was higher than the rate reported for high school girls and female college soccer players. Researchers also found that well over 50 percent of the girls who suffered from concussions were never evaluated by a doctor or health care professional trained to treat those injuries.
