Arthur Crofton has been on the air in Jacksonville for 30 years,since February 8th 1978! Over the years, Arthur has developed a loyal following, especially on Lite 96.1 WEJZ, where he has broadcast in the morning since August 23rd 1990. In May 2006, Arthur was joined by Valerie Segraves, a veteran of New York City radio, and along with long-time newsman Jim Byard and the Weather Channel's Commander Steve Silverio USN (ret), they make up THE MORNING SHOW WITH ARTHUR AND VALERIE on Lite 96.1 WEJZ!

Arthur's interest in radio began as a child growing up in his native England, listening to the BBC, but it was music radio stations on ships offshore, known as "pirate" stations, that led him to want a career "on the air"! In 1970, Arthur came to the US, which was his mother's homeland, and worked for a short while for CBS News, as a mail clerk! Yes, Arthur used to deliver Walter Cronkite his daily mail! Arthur then came south to attend his mother's alma mater, the University of Alabama!!! That's right, he's a Crimson tide fan. After undergraduate and graduate studies in Communications, Arthur began a radio career that brought him ultimately to Lite 96.1.

Arthur is married to the former Laurie Mitchell, who is a Jacksonville native and 6th generation Floridian!! Yes there are a few here!! You may have heard her on the air too!! Laurie and Arthur live with two dogs, Foxy and Wolfie, and three cats, Moby, Minnie and Ty. Arthur also has three adult children. Older daughter Teresa lives in Bristol, England, as does son Craig. Younger daughter Lindsay, however, is here in Jacksonville!

Valerie Segraves, Co-host with Arthur Crofton on The Morning Show on Lite 96.1 came to Jacksonville September of 2005 after 12 years of radio and television in New York City, five years in Philadelphia and most recently five years in Atlanta, where she was a radio broadcast meteorologist for The Weather Channel and radio news anchor for CNN.

Valerie grew up a “Marine Corps Brat” in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where her mother, Annie, still lives. She has two older brothers, Jody and Chris who also reside in the South. She attended East Carolina University as a music major, where Arthur’s daughter studied as well!

“I had all thoughts of being a music teacher like Cheryl Crow until, quite by chance; I walked into the campus radio station and knew in an instant, THIS is really what I want to do with my life.”

Before even graduating, Valerie had a job doing weekend weather at WNCT-TV in Greenville, NC and from there, pulled a two-year stint in the Raleigh-Durham area before she was off to the “Big Apple”

Valerie is proudly kept by her 2 boys, Ringo and Pie, cats of course, and will be the first to tell you as any cat owner knows…”We answer to them, not they to us!”

Most any weekend, Valerie can be found on the beach. “I love to swim, and I can surf a little bit, but walking the shore is the best relaxation there is!”
